Begin your day with a visit to Santiago Metropolitan Cathedral; situated opposite Plaza de Armas, this breath-taking example of 18th century neoclassical architecture is a perfect central starting point.
Plaza de Armas
Continue on to Plaza de Armas; surrounded by a number of historical buildings, it is the monumental centrepiece to Santiago.
Chilean Natural History Museum

The Chilean Natural History Museum is an artefact in itself; placed within the old palace rooms of the Palacio de la Real Audiencia de Santiago, exploring the interior of this building is such a delight. The exhibitions are based around Chilean life from many years ago, with items such as furniture and clothing.
Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino

Whilst you are still in the museum atmosphere, check out the nearby Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino. Founded by art collector Sergio Larrain Garcia-Moreno, the pre-Columbian artefacts on display belong to his private collection, acquired over 50 years.
Estación Mapocho

Once a majestic train station, complete with marbled floors, towering pillars and vast rooms, the 19th century, copper-topped Estación Mapocho now serves as a significant cultural centre that is open for a number of events throughout the year.
O’Higgins Park

A day in Santiago would not be complete without visiting one of its public parks. Spreading over a colossal 190 acres, it is named after one of Chile’s founders, Bernardo O’Higgins. Music festivals and traditional dancing events are commonplace here – so make sure you don’t miss out on all the fun!
Mercado Central de Santiago
To finish off, head down to Mercado Central de Santiago, a cast-iron building with a sloping pyramid-shaped roof with so many different features that you’ll have to get a closer look before you go inside. However, when you do walk inside, you’ll be greeted by a bustling indoor fish market that included stalls as well as restaurants – the perfect place to grab a bit to eat.
