The
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization
(UNESCO) in Tanzania cordially invites the media to the opening ceremony
of a workshop on “Water Cooperation in the Nile Basin: From Concepts to
Actions”, that will be held at the Protea Hotel Courtyard Dar Es Salaam
on Tuesday 3 December, 2013, at 0900 am.
The workshop
is within the framework of the project “Water for Peace in Africa:
Development of road-map for sustainable, policy responsive, science
cooperation in the Nile Basin”, and it targets academics and senior
officials from water ministries in the Nile Basin Countries.
UNESCO
aims to build on previous and on-going cooperative efforts in the basin
to support the role of science in water resources management policy
regionally and at the country scale by participants in the formulation
of a road map to empower cooperative policy-relevant scientific research
among Nile Basin Countries and to develop actionable project proposals.
The workshop will focus on priority areas that have been identified
previously through desk studies and consultation with partners along
with the outcomes of previous relevant workshop and activities.
 The
four day workshop will be officiated by the Minister for Water, Hon.
Prof Jumanne Maghembe, and draws participants from 15 African countries.
